As the only representative from China, Chief Designer of Passive Water Reactor and President of Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute (SNERDI), Dr. Zheng Mingguang, was re-appointed by IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) Director General Yokiya Amano as the member of SAGNE (The Standing Advisory Group on Nuclear Energy) for the 7th term (from 2019 to 2021).
SAGNA has about 20 members including the Chairman who come from various backgrounds, serve in their personal capacity and are appointed by the Director General. They are recognized experts in the area of nuclear sciences and applications and are drawn from national authorities, nuclear research and technological centers, academic institutions and the nuclear industry. Established in 2000, SAGNE has been committed to advise the IAEA Director General on the Agency’s activities related to nuclear applications in food and agriculture, human health, water resources, the environment, radioisotope production and radiation technology.
Since March, 2013, Dr. Zheng was nominated by China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA) to serve as a member of SAGNE. As the Chief Designer of the National Science and Technology Major Project of Large Advanced PWR, he proactively promoted the technology cooperation and collaboration between China and IAEA in Probability Safety Analysis, I&C system, aging management, nuclear safety and quality assurance, structural integrity assessment and so on.
Synergizing connectivity of SPIC’s (State Power Investment Corporation Limited) development strategy, SNERDI will conservatively strengthen international cooperation, enhance cultivation of demanding talents, and participate in the standards formulation combining the business requirements. And SNERDI is ready to work with the whole industry to build an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world, and create a bright tomorrow for mankind.
