On April 1, 2019, Dr. ZHENG Mingguang, chief designer of national science and technology major project-large advanced pressurized water reactor (known as CAP1400) and President of Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute (SNERDI) was invited to give lecture at Tsinghua University for 27 international master's students from Turkey, Pakistan and other countries (areas).
Dr. ZHENG introduced the historical footprint of SNERDI, the development prospect of nuclear power in China, and the research and development progress of CAP1400. Specifically, he concentrated on the topics of key factors that might affect the sustainable development of nuclear power, the advancement of passive technology and the advantages of simplified design. Dr. ZHENG’s answered the questions about the differences amongst Gen III reactors, simplified equipment design, radwaste treatment strategy, nuclear fuel manufacturing system and so on.
The Tsinghua University international master’s program in nuclear engineering and management (TUNEM) is guided by the National Energy Administration and the Ministry of Education, and proactively supported by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) and China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN). The program is aimed at cultivating high-level professionals with outstanding academics and global vision, who are willing to continue their graduate studies in China and to contribute to the cooperation between china and their motherland after graduation.
