From 6th to 9th, June 2017, the International Conference on Topical Issues in Nuclear Installation Safety: Safety Demonstration of Advanced Water Cooled Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) was held by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna. Dr. Mingguang ZHENG, Senior Vice President of State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) and President of Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute (SNERDI), was invited to attended the conference and make a speech on Insights of Design, Construction & Commissioning for Advanced NPP.

Dr. ZHENG analyzed the current situation and challenges of nuclear power development and the indispensability of nuclear power. He introduced the lessons SNERDI learned and the engineering solutions SNERDI provided through the design and construction of NPPs. On the topic of How to Realize the Better Techno-economy of CAP1400, Dr. ZHENG    demonstrated the 40 years experiences in PWR technology R&D in China, the establishment of educational, industrial infrastructures, experimental facilities and safety review, the philosophy of AP1000 and so on. He also invited the participants to join the 25th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering, which was held in July, 2017.

The international Conference on Topical Issues in Nuclear Installation Safety is to foster the exchange of information on the latest approaches, advances and challenges in the demonstration of the safety of nuclear power plants that are planned to be licensed and constructed in the near future, in particular those using water cooled reactors. The conference is of substantive benefit for various types of stakeholder organizations in Member States as a result of the interchange of experiences that can provide valuable insights into how the topics covered by the conference are currently addressed in different countries. Accordingly, the conference contributed to the harmonization of approaches and methods applied for the safety demonstration of nuclear power plants worldwide.
