On 29^th, September, 2015, National Assembly Chairperson of South African, Cedric Thomas Frolick and his wife, Deputy Secretary General of SA-China People’s Friendship Accusation, Song Haimo visited Shanghai Engineering Research and Design Institute (SERDI) accompanied by Vice President of State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) and President of SNERDI, Zheng Mingguang, and Vice President of SNPTC, Hou Xuezhong.

During the meeting, Mr. Zheng mingguang and Mr. Hou Xuezhong presented CAP1400 nuclear power technology, business areas of State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) and SNPTC, progress on AP1000 project and CAP1400 demonstration project, and the cooperation with South Africa respectively.

The Chairperson highly appreciated the nuclear power development processes in China and deeply impressed by the technical capabilities of SPIC and SNPTC. He regarded the large advanced pressurized water reactor - CAP1400 technology leading by SNPTC as the Game Changer. He felt confident that CAP1400 will spearhead a new generation of nuclear power technology and build an inclusive future to the benefit of all humanity. As developing countries, South Africa and China are both committed to build long-term friendships. And South Africa would like to share the self-reliance R&D and localization experiences with China in order to strengthen the stability and rejuvenation of African continent. The Chairperson was quite touched by the video of the training program for first batch of 50 South African students. He firmly believed that the training was significant because it consistently provided talents for nuclear power development in South Africa.    

After the meeting, the Chairperson visited SNERDI’s exhibition along with Dr. Zheng Mingguang and dedicated the inscription to the institute:

To all involved in SNERDI, the commitment, passion and vision of the staff is a testimony of the people of China to build an inclusive future to the benefit of all humanity.

As South Africans, we share this common vision that is build on a foundation of mutual friendship, respect and peace.
