SHANGHAI,April 8,2011--ASME Nuclear Codes & Standards Committee officially approved the establishment of China International Working Group, namely China IWG.
April 6th 2011, co-host by SNPTC and ASME, the establishing workshop of China IWG was successfully held at SNERDI. Representing ASME were Ms. June Ling, Associate Executive Director, Standards & Certification; Kevin Ennis, Director, Nuclear Codes & Certification; and Christian Sanna, Project Engineering Manager, Nuclear Codes & Standards. Volunteers representing ASME included Richard Barnes, Anric Enterprises (Chair, BPV Committee on Construction of Nuclear Facility Components); John Gregg, Westinghouse Electric (Member, BPV Section III Working Group on Vessels); and Zhang, Qiang, Chief Representative of ASME Beijing Office. Domestic attendees in the meeting included representatives from CNNC, CGNPC, SNPTC, HEC, DEC, Shanghai Electric Group and representatives from more than ten other corporations and companies.
President of SNERDI, Dr. Zheng, Mingguang presented the workshop and delivered a welcoming speech. SNPTC, the parent company of SNERDI, gave high attention to this workshop. Vice President of SNPTC, Mr. Qu, Dazhuang made a special trip to Shanghai to meet with ASME delegation. Based on the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between SNPTC and ASME in Vancouver October, 2010, the workshop was designed to promote the set-up of an open platform for the domestic nuclear industry and to realize the direct engagement to ASME Codes & Standards constructing activities. The first half of the meeting was host by Jian, Jingwen, Deputy Director, SNPTC Equipment Division. An IWG work training was carried out by Mr. Sanna. The second half of the workshop was co-chaired by Mr. Barnes and Mr. Yan, Jinquan, Vice President and Chief Engineer of SNERDI, the convener of China IWG. On the model of a formal China IWG meeting, the workshop discussed and determined some important preparatory items, including institution setting, membership, interface with ASME BPV III Committee etc.
In the closing of the workshop, Ms. June Ling highly appreciated the meeting, saying that it is a good start and using the word “excellent” as an evaluation. Mr. Barnes also spoke highly of the workshop and its fruitful results. He said the workshop was in complete accordance with ASME requirements and also expressed full confidence in China IWG.
SNPTC pays close attention to IWG and will continue advancing the building process of ASME China IWG.
