From October 17 – 21, 2016, Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute (SNERDI) was selected by IAEA to host the Technical Meeting on Phenomenology and Technologies Relevant to In-Vessel Melt Retention (IVR) and Ex-Vessel Corium Cooling (EVCC) due to the achievements SNERDI made on IVR through Large Advanced Pressurized Water Reactor Major Project. Senior Vice President of State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) and President of SNERDI, Dr. ZHENG Mingguang, Vice President and Chief Engineer, Mr. YAN Jinquan, and over 70 well-known international and national experts from nearly 40 organizations attended the meeting.
Dr. ZHENG welcomed the attendances of all experts and pointed out the importance of nuclear power development within the clean energy industry. He presented that safety is the foundation and pre-condition of substantial growing of nuclear power. And the R&D of severe accidents mitigation, especially the IVR management, is significant to maintain the safety and security of nuclear power plants. He proposed further communication and cooperation between SNERDI and international entities to promote the technical levels of accidents mitigation.
The technical meeting involved 6 thematic tracks, including 33 reports and over 10 sessions. The scope of the meeting contained key technologies on both IVR and EVCC. SNERDI presented creative technologies and R&D achievements on IVR through design of CAP1400. The proposed viewpoints were appreciated by experts and admitted to summary documents.
Dr. ZHENG also met with vice president of UJV, Mr. Jiri Zdarek to explore possible cooperation opportunities in the future.
