On November 11, 2016, the delegation led by former commissioner of Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and partner of Pillsburg Winthrop Shaw Pittman (Pillsbury), Mr. Jeffrey Merrifield visited Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute (SNERDI). Senior Vice President of State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) and President of SNERDI, Dr. Mingguang ZHENG, attended the exchange meeting.

SNERDI introduced the historical footprint, business areas, technical capabilities and international activities of the institute. Pillsbury shared the experiences of international nuclear power cooperation, NRC licensing and strategic collaboration.

SNERDI and Pillsbury discussed the topics on characteristics of CAP1400, current status of nuclear power plants construction, regulatory system of NRC and Gen IV nuclear technologies. Pillsbury recognized the technical capabilities of SNERDI, and proposed suggestions on the complexity of international cooperation, possibilities of technical supporters from SNERDI, “Go Global” strategy for CAP series and advanced technical research and development. Both sides are looking forward to explore further cooperation and communication opportunities.
