September 14, 2015, the 59th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) took place at the Vienna International Centre in Austria, starting off the Nuclear Power Innovative Technology Exhibition organized by the IAEA.

Themed by “China’s Nuclear Power—Innovation and Development”, China’s delegation led by the China Atomic Energy Administration focused on the introduction of “CAP14000, the World’s Largest Passive Nuclear Power Technology, and Hualong No. 1” at the one-week exhibition.

As one of the 16 National Science and Technology Major Projects, CAP1400 is a Gen-Ⅲ PWR nuclear power technology designed by the State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) based on the 40-odd-year research and development, design, construction and operation experience of China’s nuclear power industry as well as the introduction, digestion and absorption of AP1000 nuclear power technology. CAP1400 has attained the advanced level in the global Gen-Ⅲ nuclear power arena in terms of safety, economy and environmental compatibility, whose development is a concerted effort of the whole nation and the culmination of China’s industrial innovation.

The advanced features of CAP1400 were demonstrated in forms of panels, models and videos and attracted much attention. Many insiders showed strong interest, especially in its passive safety philosophy and innovative and distinctive modeling construction. Dr. Zheng Mingguang, Chief Designer of CAP1400 and Vice President of SNPTC explained the technology and answered questions during the exhibition.

On September 15, SNPTC held the side event of CAP1400.

During the event, Dr. Zheng gave a comprehensive introduction of CAP1400 from perspectives of the R & D process, design characteristics, V & V and project progress etc, winning attention from the present experts who communicated and explored with Dr. Zheng over concerned issues of the equipment, tests, instrumentation & control, sites, economy, international cooperation and development strategy etc.

The event was chaired by Mr. Li Junjie, Alternate of the Permanent Mission of China to the IAEA and a speech was delivered by Mr. Cheng Jingye, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna. A hundred and more experts participated in the event.
